Testing a new GEO?
Before you launch, make sure you’re fully prepared. Vlad, Deputy Head of Affiliates at N1 Partners, shares his hands-on experience from testing dozens of GEOs and provides a practical checklist to help you launch efficiently and avoid costly mistakes. Use it before your next campaign and see if your setup is ready.
1. Research before you launch
- Every successful test starts with market knowledge.
- Understand which payment methods users actually rely on and which restrictions apply in that region. Look at competitors — who’s already active, what offers perform, and how they position themselves.
- Define your Tier strategy: Tier-1 may cost more (high CPC/CPM) but usually offers stronger retention and LTV.
Skipping this step is a common rookie mistake that burns your budget early.
2. Localize properly, not just translate
Once you understand the market, it’s time to speak its language.
- Localization means more than translation — it’s about using local slang, humor, and cultural references that resonate.
- Visual identity matters: choose colors and imagery that are positively perceived in the region (red in China, green in Europe).
- Adapt your offer to the local mindset — for example, “refer-a-friend” bonuses work well in Brazil, while in Scandinavia, “fair play” and fast payouts perform better.
3. Test and track your funnel
- Run several combinations (offer × landing page × creative) in parallel.
- Give each test at least 50–100 clicks before making any conclusions.
- Track and analyze the full funnel — not just FTDs. Use trackers and postbacks to see the entire conversion chain.
- If players don’t return within two weeks, don’t scale the GEO. Stop, analyze, and pivot.
4. Compliance first
Before scaling, make sure your campaigns comply with local laws.
- Study where iGaming ads are allowed and where disclaimers are required.
- Check banking and payment system restrictions to ensure your payment flow works smoothly.
- Avoid aggressive or misleading creatives — for instance, “easy money” messaging in Germany often leads to instant bans.
- Compliance violations can quickly kill your test and waste your entire budget.
5. Work with local partners
- Find affiliates or media buyers who already have real experience in that GEO.
-Share insights — which formats convert best (FB, TikTok, push, SEO) — and collaborate with local communities who understand what truly drives user engagement.
- Local expertise saves time and boosts ROI faster than isolated testing.
6. Optimize before you quit
- Set clear KPIs before launch — for example, ROI ≥ 30% within 30 days.
- If the GEO doesn’t show consistent performance within 4–6 weeks, pause it and reallocate the budget.
- It’s better to move on to a new market than to keep pushing an unprofitable one.
7. Always retest
- Markets evolve.
- What worked last year might flop today.
- Revisit your GEOs regularly, especially after regulatory, payment, or traffic shifts. Consistent retesting keeps your strategy sharp and profitable.
